Brecon Carreg, based near Llandeilo, is one of the leading bottled water brands in the UK. Established in 1978, the last 46 years of steady growth now generates an impressive annual turnover of £10.3M. This AA+ grade BRCGS certified company employs 42 staff, bottled 51.1 million litres of water last year and supplied all the leading supermarkets in Wales, as well as Boots and Greggs throughout the UK. In 2022 the company received Great Taste awards for their new flavoured tonic water products.
For the last eight years Food Centre Wales has worked with their technical and management team to provide compliance support for their BRCGS certification. Food Centre Wales’ food technologists engaged in a programme of knowledge transfer activity to support them in achieving their BRCGS certification, involving conducting a gap analysis, designing new systems and procedures and conducting internal audits. In addition, to facilitate business expansion, Food Centre Wales assisted with the design and layout of the new warehouse and provided labelling support for the new award winning flavoured tonic waters. Most recently, an update and further support was provided to assure they maintained their AA+ grade BRCGS certification, updated to version 9 through Project HELIX.

Benefits of support
Brecon Carreg’s technical team benefitted from the additional expertise and knowledge provided by Food Centre Wales’s technical team to grow their in-house skills through Project HELIX.
Food Centre Wales has been instrumental in transferring knowledge to increase our level of knowledge of BRCGS, food safety and HACCP, allowing us to continually maintain the high standards and double AA+ grade certification, which is particularly important to our customers.
“We are very grateful of the support we have received, and we hope that we can continue to receive technical support from Food Centre Wales to assist with the growth of Brecon Carreg.”
