Company Biography / Bywgraffiad Cwmni
FudgePots was dreamt up by Rita, whose Bengali father brought her up to cook and enjoy all types of Indian cuisine, and Catrin, who is all-Welsh, and whose mother contributed our original fudge recipe. Food has been a driving force in each family and we wanted to use both influences to create something new. Rita spiced the first fudge with cumin, black nigella and white mustard. Catrin had been somewhat dubious about all this, but one bite was enough to change her mind! A posse of local amateur fudge tasters (the neighbours were always keen to help!) also loved the sweet, spicy flavours. Armed with a trestle table, a ravishing fuschia sari and armfuls of fudge, FudgePots made its first public appearance at a tiny Christmas market in Penarth. Customers not only snapped up fudge on the spot; afterwards, they found the website and ordered more online. Even better, we were approached by two farmers’ markets, and started selling on a regular basis.
After an exciting time in 2019, selling at markets and food festivals, Covid-19 threatened to put it all to an end in early 2020. However, when customers realised FudgePots could deliver across the UK (a very covid-safe way to give and receive gifts and treats), online sales shot up and word of mouth spread even more. Christmas 2020 was a tremendous success, helped by a very pretty new packaging design, which helped create a new range of gorgeous gourmet fudge boxes. We will be taking a limited break in January and February of the new year, but back in full action by March. Fingers crossed for an early end to lockdown and fabulous fudge to celebrate!
